'Eco-sex' asks: How green is your love life
You drive a hybrid, eating organic, and are passionate about recycling. But how green is your love life?
Think of these beautiful roses on Valentine's Day and the environmental costs of growing and carbon miles involved in flying them from afar.
What about condoms, threw it into the toilet and heading into the sewers that may pollute the ocean?
If an environmentally sustainable life between the sheets has not crossed your mind, you are still a "total neophyte environment," according to the author Stefanie Iris Weiss.

But the help is on its way to the new eco-Weiss manual sex, which leaves no stone unturned in its mission to bring the front room and central in the battle to save the planet.
"I've always wanted to write a sex book. I am a novice very committed, and I have been vegetarian for 20 years. I saw a gap in the market and could not believe that nobody had written about this issue," Weiss, 38, Reuters.
"I think the green sex is having its moment now. I think it's the next big thing in green. People are realizing that their daily lives, most intimate habits, are deeply connected to this terrible crisis we are in," said .
Eco-Sex shelves land on sale March 31 by Ten Speed Press.
From sex toys crank (and Web sites where former battery-powered devices can be recycled) to hygiene, lingerie eco-friendly (bamboo) and dating sites for eco warriors, Eco-Sex is aim to show readers how to reduce the carbon footprint of your love life - and have fun doing it.
real-world experience
WeissWeiss Stefanie Iris (pictured right), who claims to be tested or examined all items in the book, interviewed chefs for raw food recipes aphrodisiac meals for two, suggests the ecological ideal first date (cycling) and recommends natural latex mattresses (but cautions that are less courageous than the springs, coils and foam).
She finds a wide range of natural and organic cosmetics, latex condoms are also biodegradable, and resources for eco-bling-sexy because neither gold nor diamonds are a girl's best friend self-respecting green.
"It was the most fun I've had the investigation of a book in my life," he said.
As for the flowers for your love - the true eco-sexual that they grow in the backyard, or at least buy locally from a farmers market.
Weiss admits that "some people will make fun of the concept of eco-sex. I hope that."
She says that eco-sex need not be meek, adding that can be passionate in bed on Mother Earth "without coming off like you're (a hippy 1960) trapped on the set of hair, the musical" .
Despite all the replacements of fun for the essentials in the dating game - such as baking soda instead of plain old tooth heavy commercial bleaching chemicals - is a serious side to Eco-Sex.
With the planet is headed for a population of about 9 billion people in nursing oxygen, producing carbon emissions by 2040, according to the UN, the last carbon offset is to choose the sex that results in having babies.
"The No. 1 thing people can do to be an eco-sexual is to have fewer children or none at all," said Weiss, who has no children.
If that sounds outrageous, just give a thought to 90 percent of the estimated nappies sold each year end up in landfills. Or how the carbon footprint of an extra person is much greater than all the energy saving bulbs you installed.
"I think overpopulation is an important conversation that people have. It is something that people think in terms of third world countries. But it is a conversation that will benefit us in America that has," he said.
