Third dengue case found in Townsville

A third resident of Townsville is believed to have contracted dengue fever after an outbreak was declared in the northern city of Queensland last week.

Queensland Health says it is awaiting test results in a third probable case of dengue in the city after two people tested positive for the virus last week.

The last case is the second in the outskirts of the North Ward, while another case was in Deeragun.

Authorities say the cases do not appear to be connected and the source of the outbreak remains unknown.

The outbreak was declared last week, a month after the city was declared free of the virus after an earlier outbreak in December.

A spokesman said the equipment Dengue Action Response are conducting inspections yard and set traps to kill mosquitoes of dengue in Townsville.
